Two men were arrested for possessing unlicensed firearms at the Everest informal settlement on September 22.

The SAPS arrested two men for possession of unlicensed firearms at the Everest informal settlement on September 22.

The arrests happened at separate locations after the Ekurhuleni Crime Intelligence and the Springs Crime Prevention Unit received complaints about the men.

SAPS Ekurhuleni spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela said officers found a 44-year-old man in possession of a revolver with two live rounds of ammunition.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old man was found with a modified black 9mm replica firearm and four live rounds of ammunition.

Ekurhuleni district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole commended the officers for their swift action in addressing unlicensed firearms in the district.
