Jackknifed truck disrupts traffic

The rescue team on the scene needed three hours to free the driver from the truck’s cab.

An articulated truck carrying about 30 tons of glass-making sand jackknifed on the N17 near the Tonk Meter off-ramp on Wednesday afternoon.

According to William Ntladi, the DEMS spokesperson, a Selection Park Fire Station rescue team responded to the call at 12:38.

“Upon arrival, they found the driver trapped inside the crashed truck cab. It took about three hours to recover him from the wreckage,” said Ntladi.

The driver sustained multiple fractures to his lower body and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The cause of the accident is unknown, and the case is with the CoE’s traffic officials for further investigation.

The section of the N17 was temporarily closed.
