Credit Control Outreach leaves no stone unturned

Ekurhuleni MMC for Finance Jongizizwe Dlabathi took a hands-on approach during the Credit Control Outreach Operation in Benoni on November 22.

He verified meter numbers and account statements to ensure the accuracy of consumption records and identify illegal connections.

“We have observed that some businesses’ electricity consumption and what they purchase do not correspond, meaning the city is not recouping the accurate amount. In response, the energy department will visit the identified properties to test their meters for irregularities.”

The operation, aimed at improving the city’s financial health, saw the removal of four water meters and the disconnection of three power supplies.

These actions targeted businesses that have fallen behind on their payments to the city. By taking these decisive steps, the operation intends to encourage these businesses to come forward and make the necessary payment arrangements.

Dlabathi emphasised the importance of this operation in maintaining the integrity of the city’s financial systems and ensuring all consumption records are consistent and legal.
