Springs Farmers Market announces changes
Vendors and visitors can enjoy the market more this coming year.

The Springs Farmers Market which has been thriving for nearly two years, kicks off the new year with exciting updates for both vendors and visitors.
Co-owner of Den Akker and one of the organisers of the market, Neen van Deventer, says they had a meeting to discuss the year ahead.
They also looked at the plans, rules and regulations for what they believe will be a very exciting and positive year for the further development of the market.
“During the last part of 2024, as some of you know, several things changed here in President’s Park with the closure of Horse & Hound and the eventual permission by the council for the premises to be utilised as the indoor museum by the Mining and Military Museum (MMM).
“This created wonderful opportunities for us at Den Akker and therefore for the market.”
They will start this year on new premises which will make the market more accessible to the general public and with toilet facilities on-site at the market.
This will provide ample shade for stalls as well as patrons to sit and enjoy their food and drinks while visiting the market as well as visitors to the museum.
She adds that a deal was made with the museum that the Farmer’s Market through Den Akker will become a continuous donor to the museum as a trade for the use of the facilities such as toilets etc.
Den Akker will also service and keep the toilets clean and maintain the garden at the indoor museum. Electricity for the market will also be available on-site and supplied from Den Akker. The new layout for the market will be available on the online registration (springsfarmersmarket.co.za) platform.
“Given the above, we are very excited and had to make the following changes to the market cost, rules and regulations.”
The Springs Farmers Market will commence on January 25. Online bookings will open on January 20. Market times for 2025 will change from 07:00-12:00 to 08:00-13:00, summer and winter.
“This will give patrons more time to finish their Saturday tasks and then pay a visit to the market and museum with the family at their leisure.”
Stall fees for 2025 will increase from the current R100/150 to R150, irrespective of what merchandise/products are offered by the vendor.
“This means that all stalls will be R150, even those selling food, fast food or any kind of food product. Keep in mind that a percentage of this fee will be donated to the museum and utilised for the upkeep end maintenance of the toilets.
“There will be no option for sole mandates to be taken this year concerning any product/food. The managing team of the market will still, as far as possible, try to limit the number of vendors offering the same product, but no promises or assurances in this regard, by anyone, will be entertained.
“The main reason for this is that we must again reiterate that the farmers market is a weekly market and the main goal is to offer unique fresh, home- and handmade products to the general public every week.”
They expressed that customers must become regular visitors and get accustomed to the fact that the market is their one-stop shop to acquire their basic weekly/monthly needs as well as to buy unique products, as presents, tools, delicacies and/or nice to haves, which they cannot buy in any other shop or supermarket.
“Therefore, we urge vendors to stock at least one or two products which fit both bills as described above. The market is not a craft market, serving the short-term and long-term needs of the general public is the key.
“In light of the above, we also want to encourage vendors to start utilising the online booking system.”
In 2025 the following will apply as far as bookings are concerned:
• The payment of a deposit for your stall will fall away in total.
• No unregistered (online) vendor will be able to book a stall.
• EFT payments of the full stall fee, online, will be the norm.
“If anything is unclear or you need assistance or need to talk about anything, concerning the market, our doors are open.”
