Vervet monkey no longer seen in Modder East

SPCA urges residents to call 082 668 5230 with sightings or location pins.

A vervet monkey spotted on Outeniqua Road in Modder East on June 5 has not been seen again in the Springs area.

Springs SPCA manager Annecia le Roux confirmed that no further sightings have been reported.

“Wildlife authorities are aware and monitoring the situation. We urge the public not to approach or crowd the animal, as it could become stressed and unpredictable,” she said.

Le Roux also warned against feeding the monkey, noting it could encourage the animal to remain in the area.

“Feeding it gives it a reason to stay,” she added.

Anyone who spots the monkey is asked to contact the SPCA on 082 668 5230 and send a pin location of the sighting.
