EMPD nabs 12 suspects with drugs and alcohol offences
Twelve suspects were arrested during a week-long EMPD operation in Ekurhuleni. Officers seized drugs including mandrax, crystal meth, rock and cannabis. Two drivers were also caught under the influence of alcohol.
The EMPD arrested 12 suspects between June 16 and June 22 during a series of crime prevention operations conducted in Springs, Thembisa, Duduza and Daveyton.
According to the EMPD, 10 suspects were found in possession of drugs, including Mandrax tablets, crystal meth, rock and cannabis. The arrests followed after officers received tip-offs from members of the public about alleged drug dealers operating in the area.
In addition to the drug-related arrests, two other suspects were taken into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol.

One driver was stopped after running a red traffic light. Officers detected the smell of alcohol and escorted the suspect to a nearby healthcare facility for a blood test. The second driver, spotted driving erratically in Springs, was confirmed to be intoxicated after being stopped by police.
The suspects, aged between 23 and 40, were all charged with either possession of illegal drugs or driving under the influence.
They were taken to their respective local police stations. All suspects are expected to appear in a magistrate’s court in the coming days.
