Greater Springs Soup Kitchen brings warmth to Springs this winter
The initiative runs on Saturdays from 15:00 in the Meat Mecca parking area.
This harsh winter has been made more bearable thanks to initiatives like the Greater Springs Soup Kitchen, which continues to grow and make a meaningful impact in the local community.
The kitchen held its eighth event on June 21. It operates every Saturday in the Meat Mecca parking area in Geduld.
Founder Franci Swanepoel said they have received generous support from the community, with people donating ingredients, time, and resources to help serve those in need.
“The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the warmth and kindness we’re bringing to the community.

“Our events on June 14 and 21 were a huge success. We handed out meals in Geduld, opposite Rebel, and in Strubenvale, opposite SPAR,” she said.
Community members not only received a warm meal but also much-needed companionship.Swanepoel added that support is welcome in many forms: donating ingredients, helping with cooking, contributing financially, or simply spreading the word.
“We will continue our outreach regularly and are grateful for the community’s ongoing support. Every bit of help makes a difference, and we deeply appreciate the kindness and generosity shown,” she said.
The soup kitchen runs every Saturday from 16:00, with volunteers asked to arrive an hour earlier. Anyone wishing to contribute can do so from 15:00 on Saturdays or by contacting Swanepoel on 064 580 4852.
