Man found in possession of firearm arrested in Springs CBD
The suspect is set to appear in Springs Magistrate's Court soon.
A Zimbabwean national was arrested in the early hours of this morning after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
He has been charged with contravening the Immigration Act and with possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The Vispol unit, under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel France Koma, was conducting patrols in the Springs CBD when officers noticed two suspicious men.
According to Springs SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, “When the police tried to stop them, both suspects fled. The police gave chase and apprehended one. He was searched and found in possession of a firearm.”
The suspect was taken to the Springs SAPS for detention.
“He will appear before the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon,” Tshabalala said.
