Social bowling brings laughter, friendship and fitness to Springs Club

Lawn bowls, laughter and a little friendly competition brought the Springs Bowling Club to life on Saturday. For long-standing members like Tokkie Hattingh and André Meyer, it's more than just a game. It’s about staying active, connecting with friends and keeping the spirit of the club alive.

Laughter, friendly banter, and the sound of bowls rolling down the green filled the air at the Springs Bowling Club as members gathered for a relaxed day of social play.

The group met on Saturday at the club. Long-time members Tokkie Hattingh and André Meyer told the Springs Advertiser that being part of the club isn’t about the score.

It’s about the people you play with. Hattingh said the club offers a space to socialise and maintain the friendships formed over the years.

“It means everything to us. Just playing for fun. It’s also a way for us to practise for upcoming tournaments,” she said.

As one of the club’s longest-serving active members, Hattingh added that it’s also about keeping the club going.

“In the 40 years I’ve been here, the club has changed a lot. From uniforms to ownership,” she said.

Meyer shared that, for him, it’s all about staying fit and active as a pensioner.

“You feel it the next day after playing. But it’s the healthy competition that makes it more fun, and we also enjoy supporting other clubs,” he laughed.
