Local disabled swimmer part of SA team going to Bangkok

The 17-year-old hopes to qualify for and compete in the 2028 Paralympics.

Damon Elbourne (17), who lives in Springs and attends Felicitas School, has qualified for the South African Down Syndrome and Intellectually Impaired Swim Team. He will compete in the Virtus Swimming World Championships from August 19 to 30 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Damon and his teammates need support and funding to make the trip to Bangkok. This marks the first step on Damon’s journey to becoming a Paralympic athlete and potentially competing at the 2028 Paralympics in the USA.

He has been swimming for four years and trains for two hours every day, showing remarkable dedication to his goals.
