Edelweiss resident claims city failed to fix damage after contractor repairs leak

Despite the City of Ekurhuleni confirming repairs were done, an Edelweiss resident says he had to fix the damage outside his home himself and the road repaired after months.

Following a complaint from an Edelweiss resident about damage caused by a city-hired contractor, Ekurhuleni’s spokesperson Zweli Dlamini informed the Springs Advertiser that repairs were completed on July 30.

In an article by the Springs Advertiser, titled ‘Homeowner maintains sidewalk, city leaves it worse,’ Richard Anderson said the contractor damaged the tar road, the pavement, and even his lawn to repair a leak, and left behind a hole over a metre deep.

Dlamini said the reinstatement was pending, which is standard procedure. He also said city officials conducted inspections upon receiving the job completion card. The job was never approved, as it was marked incomplete due to the pending reinstatement.

“The lawn was reinstated immediately after the customer made the initial follow-up, but the tar repair required the contractor to obtain the necessary reinstatement materials (asphalt), which took longer than anticipated.
“The issue was finally resolved when the city sourced the asphalt and informed the customer about the plans,” said Dlamini.

Despite the city’s response, Anderson said they did not carry out the repairs outside his property and that he paid for them himself. He added that the road was repaired on the afternoon of July 31.
