Springs Boys High launches December drive

Learners from Springs Boys High are leading a December drive to support the local SPCA and other beneficiaries, showing care for animals and community this festive season.

Springs Boys High School (SBHS) has kicked off its December drive in aid of the SPCA and local homes, which runs from October 14 to December 1.

The drive aims to collect food, sanitary towels, old clothes, shoes and blankets to donate to the beneficiaries on December 1 and 4.

Speaking to the Springs Advertiser, teacher and co-ordinator Chaba Mokoena said the SPCA’s vocal appeals for support on social media inspired the drive.

He said that through this, the school learnt of community needs and decided to rally efforts to answer the call, as the SPCA does phenomenal work caring for forgotten animals. He added that it is always good to promote community involvement among learners and staff.

“SBHS is always supported by the Springs community in various fundraisers. This gives us with the opportunity to sow back into the community. We also want to take the opportunity to expand our outreach to areas in the East Rand that may benefit,” said Mokoena.

Mokoena said learners have always responded positively to outreach programmes, including a previous initiative to support Vita Nova and time spent there.

The boys had shown similar enthusiasm for this drive. The school’s social media platforms were promoting it.

“We have placed posters around the school to remind learners. Communication is constantly sent to our parents to get them involved. Each teacher has a box in their classroom into which learners are encouraged to place their donated items,” he said.

Mokoena hopes the initiative will positively impact not only the Springs SPCA but also future community partnerships.

He said the school aims to continue supporting organisations that provide people and animals with dignity and care. He concluded by asking the community to join in supporting the most vulnerable.

“By lifting each other and extending a helping hand, we can take the community of Springs to greater heights,” said Mokoena.

Drop off donations at the school’s security office between 07:00 and 17:00 daily. For more information, call 011 818 2175 or email cmokoena@sbhs.co.za
