Springs Old Boys cricket: U12s excel, U10s fall just short
The U12 Kingham and Sibali sides delivered dominant performances over the weekend, while the U10 Impalas put up a fight in a narrow loss.
It was a strong Saturday (November 22) for the Springs Old Boys junior teams, as two of its three sides emerged victorious.
The U12 Kingham and U12 Sibali teams impressed with dominant displays, while the U10 Impalas narrowly missed out, leaving the club with mixed but generally encouraging results.
The U12 Kingham side delivered a confident performance when facing off against the Kwa-Thema Cricket Club at the Prince Thethe oval sport complex in KwaThema, wrapping up the win in nine wickets.
The club told the Springs Advertiser that the hosts set a target of 103 runs, but SOB kept a tight grip with the ball.
Zain du Plessis was the standout, bowling an impressive spell in which he gave away only nine runs from three overs and took two crucial wickets.
“His discipline helped slow Kwa-Thema’s momentum and kept the chase within reach,” said the club.
The reply from SOB’s was calm and commanding as Zane Bamford led the way with a solid 41, accompanied by Raygan Harvey’s unbeaten 32.
The partnership between these two was steady, and the chase felt effortless as they led the team home with plenty of overs to spare.
The club said the win continues SOBs strong run this season and highlighted both their bowling depth and batting maturity at the junior level.
The Impalas’ SOB U10 hosted Benoni Northerns at Veritas College in a lively encounter that produced plenty of runs.
The club said this was a competitive total of 128 set by SOB, carried by a strong effort from Michael Luke Kotze, who topped the score with 39, while Lianru Bothma added a steady 25.

Benoni Northerns responded with confidence. Benoni Northerns’ Travis Kok with 50 runs and 40 runs from Dechlan Cuthbert put the momentum firmly in their favour. A match-winning partnership saw Northerns reach the target for the win by seven wickets.
The club said the SOB U12 Sibali team put on a confident display as they travelled to Elsburg Cricket Club’s home ground to record a 49-run victory.
SOB put up a good score of 115 runs, with Antonio Mendonca’s 21 runs and Logan Viljoen’s 17 runs being the chief scorers. Elsburg seemed all set for a steady chase, but Yusuf Mohammed turned the match around with an excellent bowling spell.
“He finished with four wickets for 12 runs in his two overs, breaking through the Elsburg line-up and shifting the match firmly in SOB’s favour,” the club said.
The hosts could not recover from the collapse, and SOB closed out the win with ease. The senior teams’ weekend games were washed out yet again.
