As the year rolled on, the Springs community showed once again that kindness never goes out of season. From young achievers making their families proud to residents looking out for neighbours they had never met, 2025 delivered stories that reminded us of hope, generosity and the quiet power of unity. Here are some of the moments that lifted the community’s spirits this year.
1. Pensioner restores cemetery to honour loved ones
Frans Roestoff from East Geduld took it upon himself to restore the Geduld Cemetery to its former state. He even opened a bank account to make it easier for the public to contribute to its upkeep.
2. 10- year-old Scout donates R20 000 to Springs SPCA
Vahin Moodley donated R20 000 to the local SPCA after visiting the shelter last December. Seeing animals in need moved him to support their care in a meaningful way.
3. Five men walk 400 km from Springs to Limpopo to fight drug addiction
A group of five men completed a 400km walk to raise funds toward the fight against drug abuse. Some of them are from Duduza and Tsakani, communities that continue to feel the impact of drugs.

A clothing drive run by the Save the Environment club at the Creative Education Centre resulted in a large donation for Vita Nova. The home received clothes, toys and R50 000.

Duifie Brand from Springs Retirement Village marked her 100th birthday this year. She shared stories of living through a world war, a pandemic and apartheid.
8. Laerskool Werda learners bring hope with generous donation to local soup kitchen
Greater Springs Soup Kitchen received a heartfelt donation from Laerskool Werda learners. The gesture moved founder Franci Swanepoel to tears.
9. Springs Girls High School spreads warmth through community crochet drive
Learners from Springs Girls High School crocheted blankets that were donated to the Nelson Mandela Blanket Drive, spreading warmth and comfort through their handiwork.
