East Rand Air Rifle Club sets its sights on an exciting year of shoots

With a new season underway, the East Rand Air Rifle Club is looking to grow its Hunter Field Target community while preparing for a year of shoots and competitions.

With the new year underway, the East Rand Air Rifle Club (ERAC) looks forward to welcoming new members and growing its Hunter Field Target (HFT) sport.
Last October, they hosted the South African Hunter Field Target Association (SAHFTA) nationals at the Vinkvlei Venue, bringing together top shooters from across the country.

HFT is an outdoor 4.5 air rifle shooting sport. Forty targets are placed between 7m and 42m, and shooters score a point only if the target falls over. Participants are challenged by shooting from prone, kneeling, and standing positions.

The new HFT season started in November.

“We would love to introduce the sport to anyone interested in shooting and up for a challenge. We are available to assist with advice and coaching,” said club founder Kelly Snibbe.

The club’s first league shoot is on February 7 at its venue at Vinkvlei. They will also host monthly practice shoots throughout the year to assist existing and new shooters.

“There are 12 league shoots set to be hosted by the three Gauteng clubs. This includes the Gauteng-Open on August 29 and 30, which will be hosted by the Pretoria East Air Rifle Club this year,” Snibbe said.

Another event the club is excited about is the SAHFTA nationals in October in Port Elizabeth. Anyone interested in joining the club can contact Kelly for more information.

“Everyone is welcome to join us on January 31 at 09:00 at Vinkvlei for a fun shoot,” she concluded.
