Springs SPCA is ready for its debut run at Striders’ 55th annual road race
Staff say the race is about wellness, teamwork, and supporting the community.
The Springs SPCA will participate for the first time in the 55th annual road race hosted by the Springs Striders on January 18 at Veritas College.
Speaking to the Springs Advertiser, the animal shelter’s chairperson, Nicky Meiring, said that as a team, they are excited to participate in the road race.
She said that after the incredible energy and enthusiasm shown during their own fun runs, they took things to the next level by entering an official race.
Meiring also said that the staff’s well-being is a priority for them and that she hopes the race inspires more of their team to get involved in future events.

She highlighted that some of their committee members have completed the Striders 5km before, but doing it together as a team is an honour.
“The community has always supported us, and we believe in giving back wherever we can. We always try to support local. The Striders have been amazing by sponsoring 10 free entries for our staff and even giving us the opportunity to sell our merchandise,” said the chairperson.
She also said it is not often that their team gets the chance to let their hair down. Being able to support, interact with, and participate in the community is life-changing, as it is where their support comes from.
“At the SPCA, we were born ready. Thanks to the running shoes gifted at Christmas, our team is dressed for success and eager to hit the road. We’re super excited about this race and hope it will be the first of many to come,” said Meiring.
She asked the community to greet them when they see the team on the road, dressed in their official Springs SPCA gear.
