Gauteng to run mandatory learner transport roll call in February

The provincial government says the programme aims to improve road safety and compliance.

The Gauteng Provincial Government has announced that it will conduct a mandatory roll call programme for learner transport services from February 2 to 28.

The department stated that the programme aims to ensure full compliance with prescribed road safety standards and regulatory requirements for learner transport operations across the province.

All contracted learner transport operators must present their vehicles for roadworthy testing at authorised vehicle testing stations in the province.

“Operators who fail to present their vehicles for inspection and testing will face temporary suspension of their services until law enforcement officials have approved the vehicles,” said the provincial government.

For more information, operators can contact Lesley Mdingane on 083 288 4015, Shakes Mashaba on 073 826 7232 from community safety, Phindile Jonas on 060 269 2881 and Rakgadi Nkosi on 061 320 2832 from the Department of Roads and Transport.
