Ignore SASSA notification? Your grant could be suspended
Beneficiaries are encouraged to update contact details and respond to SMS notifications as SASSA tightens compliance and eligibility checks.
SASSA has urged social grant beneficiaries to respond promptly to SMS notifications requesting them to attend grant reviews, warning that non-compliance may result in suspended or lapsed payments.
SASSA said, in a press statement, the reviews are conducted in terms of the Social Assistance Act to ensure that grants are paid only to eligible and qualifying recipients.
Beneficiaries are encouraged to keep their contact details updated on the SASSA system to improve communication and confirm eligibility during the life certification process.
“Grant reviews verify continued eligibility for social assistance, prevent fraud or duplicate claims, and safeguard public funds, which is a legal requirement,” the statement read.
At present, reviews are conducted at designated SASSA offices and service centres. The agency indicated that online review options may be introduced in future to ease congestion and reduce travel costs for beneficiaries.
For further information, beneficiaries can contact SASSA toll-free on 0800 60 10 11 during office hours, Monday to Friday.
