Permit enforcement operation targets illegal traders in Springs

Confiscated items were taken to the Boksburg pound as authorities intensified efforts to enforce trading by-laws in Ekurhuleni.

EMPD by-law enforcement and compliance unit officers conducted permit verification and enforcement on illegal traders in the Springs area between 14:00 and 22:00 on March 8.

The EMPD stated the main purpose of the operation was to target illegal traders trading without a permit. The operation was conducted along streets such as Third and Second streets, the Springs station and First street in the Springs CBD, Welgedacht Street next to Madiba RDP and Tonk Meter Road in Tsakani.

“Goods such as clothes, fruits and vegetables, and jewellery were confiscated from traders who were trading without a valid trading permit. All confiscated goods were taken to the Boksburg pound,” said the metro police.

The EMPD explained that officers will continue with these operations to ensure that the City of Ekurhuleni stays safe and clean, ensuring that everyone abides by the rules of the law.
