With the Easter holiday period approaching, the City of Ekurhuleni has urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads and to plan their trips in advance to avoid peak traffic periods.

The CoE has noted that the period is associated with increased travel, social gatherings and outdoor activities.

This often results in higher traffic volumes and an elevated risk of road accidents, particularly during adverse weather conditions such as heavy rainfall.

The city has advised the public that increased traffic volumes are expected as people travel to various destinations for holidays, religious gatherings and family visits.

“Drivers are reminded to adhere to speed limits, avoid reckless and negligent driving and ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey. Travellers should also anticipate longer travel times due to congestion.”

“In light of possible rainy weather conditions, road users are encouraged to reduce speed, maintain a safe following distance and switch on headlights to improve visibility.

“Motorists should avoid attempting to drive through flooded areas, as this may pose serious danger,” said the city.

The CoE has also urged pedestrians and cyclists to remain vigilant and to wear bright or reflective clothing, particularly during low-light conditions, to enhance visibility.

Law enforcement authorities will be deployed on major routes to monitor traffic flow and ensure compliance with road safety regulations throughout the Easter period.

The city has asked the public to work together to ensure a safe and accident-free Easter holiday.
