Selcourt and Sharon Park retired nurses unite for community project
A High Tea event hosted on Human Rights Day brought together retired nurses from across Gauteng, raising funds and strengthening efforts to uplift the Duduza community.
Retired nurses from Selcourt and Sharon Park were among those who enjoyed a successful high tea fundraising event hosted by the Nigel Retired Nurses at the Dutch Reformed Church on March 21.
The occasion commemorated Human Rights Day while raising funds for a major community upliftment project.
Established in April 2025, the organisation comprises 25 retired nurses from Duduza, Selcourt, Dunnottar, and Sharon Park.
Event organiser and retired nurse Flo Tlagae said the initiative underscores their ongoing commitment to service.
“We may be small in number, but our focus is on our objectives, vision, and mission,” she said.

“As retired nurses, we are still passionate about serving our communities and making a difference where it is needed most.
Our goal is to raise funds for a project that will uplift the community and create lasting change. We want to ensure that our work continues to have a positive impact even after retirement.”
“The event attracted retired nurses from across Gauteng, including Ekurhuleni, Benoni, Kathorus, and Kwatsaduza, demonstrating strong regional support.
Guests were welcomed with a lively programme, including a grand entrance by the Nigel Retired Nurses to the song We Are Family, setting the tone for unity and celebration.
Entertainment was provided throughout the day, with programme director Oscar Xaba leading proceedings and DJ Kgotso Rameipone keeping guests entertained as many took to the dance floor.
