Springs Premier FC appoints first woman chairperson in milestone moment

White hopes her appointment will inspire more women to take up leadership roles in sport.

Melinda White (42) has been appointed as the new Springs Premier Football Club chairperson, where she becomes the first woman to take up the role.

She told the Springs Advertiser that the appointment means a great deal to her. She explained that for her, it is special to be part of something that brings so many families and players together.

White added that it is an opportunity to lead with purpose and help build a club that people are genuinely proud to be part of.

“I also know I wouldn’t be able to do this on my own; it comes with the support of an amazing team of committee members, coaches and team managers, a lot of late nights, hard work, and time that everyone puts in behind the scenes,” said the chairperson.

As the first woman chairperson, White said it is something to be proud of but not taken lightly. She shared it represents progress and hopes it shows that there’s space for women in leadership in sport.

“If it inspires even one young girl to believe she can step into a role like this one day, then that means a lot.”

“I do see it as an important step. It shows that leadership in sport isn’t limited. My message to young girls would be: don’t be afraid to step forward; your voice and your leadership matter.”

She explained that one of the immediate priorities for the club is getting the basics right, including strong communication, supporting coaches, and making sure things run smoothly. When those foundations are in place, everything else becomes easier to build.

Her vision for the club is for Springs Premier to continue to grow in numbers and strength.

“A club known not just for results, but for how well it’s run, how it develops players, and how it supports its community. A big part of our long-term vision is working towards having our own dedicated fields and clubhouse, creating a true home for the club.”

“People can expect a more organised and connected club. Better communication, more support across teams, and an environment where everyone feels included and valued.”

Like any club, Springs Premier has faced and overcome challenges, and White said the key to overcoming them is working together, planning properly, and keeping the focus on what’s best for the players and the club as a whole.

Previously called Springs Old Boys, the club is not new to the community. She said the rebrand came from a place of growth.

“The club has evolved so much over the years, and we felt the name needed to reflect who we are today – inclusive, family-focused, and forward-thinking.”

“Springs Premier represents a fresh chapter. It speaks to our ambition, as well as to unity and pride. We want every player, parent, and supporter to feel like they belong here and are part of something meaningful.”

White concluded with a message to the community, saying this is an exciting time for the club. She said they are building something that is not just about football, but also about community, growth and pride.

She encouraged everyone to get involved, support the teams and be part of the journey.
