Rand Water maintenance expected to affect Springs and surrounding areas

Rand Water says water tankers will be deployed to affected residential areas during planned maintenance work.

Residents across the City of Ekurhuleni have been warned to prepare for intermittent water supply disruptions as Rand Water undertakes planned maintenance on its infrastructure between May 29 and July 17.

According to Rand Water, the maintenance work is aimed at improving plant availability and system reliability. The metro said residents in several areas may experience low water pressure or no water during the maintenance period.

Rand Water explained that the full restoration of the water supply will depend on the recovery of its systems after maintenance work is completed, especially in high-lying areas and communities supplied by pumping systems.

“Water tankers will be deployed to affected residential areas during this period, and details of tanker locations will be communicated closer to the time,” stated Rand Water.

One of the planned interruptions will take place on May 29 from 07:00 to 19:00 when Eskom conducts maintenance at Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch and Palmiet pump stations.

Another interruption is scheduled from May 29 until June 2 due to the replacement of raw water motors at Zuikerbosch.

Rand Water explained that further maintenance work is expected on July 17, including Eskom maintenance at Zuikerbosch and cross-connections within the Mapleton system, which could affect water supply for up to 60 hours in some areas.

Rand Water confirmed that it will carry out inspections and cleaning of selected reservoirs, including Klipfontein 1 and 2, as well as the Northridge Reservoir. However, this work is not expected to affect the water supply.

“Residents are encouraged to use water sparingly during the maintenance period and to store enough water for essential household use,” shared Rand Water.

Springs and surrounding affected areas include Selcourt Estate, Struisbult and extensions, Welgedacht, Bakerton, Slovo Park, Payneville, Gugulethu/Everest, Strubenvale and Casseldale, Dunottar and Sharon Park.
