Dancers qualify for nationals
The Dance Directions students participated in various divisions of the DanceX South Africa Gauteng Regional qualifier.
Students from Dance Directions With Mariska, based at the Springs Rugby Club, recently participated in the DanceX South Africa Gauteng Regional qualifying round at Pinnacle College Linden from May 27 to 30.
Participants who achieved gold or higher qualified for the nationals.
“Several new dancers recently joined our dance family and my group dance, cheerleading, and hip-hop groups took part in a competition of this size for the first time. We believe we fared pretty well; my dancers were on fire,” said instructor Mariska Wolmarans.
“Performing on that stage is an achievement in itself, and earning a gold award or higher is something dancers can be truly proud of.
“The competition is highly competitive, with strict judging standards, so achieving a top placing requires dedication, skill, and hard work,” she continued.
Dancers’ results are as follows:
- Danja Singleton: gold X for cheer/pom-pom group, gold X for hip-hop crew.
- Roland le Roux: gold for contemporary, gold X for Bollywood, both with special awards from the judges, gold for hip-hop, gold X for hip-hop duo, and gold X for hip-hop crew.
- Hope Bailey: gold X for hip-hop, gold X for open, gold X for cheer/pom-pom, and gold X for hip-hop crew.
- Mariska Wolmarans: gold X for cheer/pom-pom and gold X for hip-hop crew.
- Johané Huyser: gold X for cheer/pom-pom and gold X for hip-hop crew.
- Claudine Daws: gold X for cheer/pom-pom.
- Skye van Staaden: gold X for cheer/pom-pom.
- Esmari Conradie: gold for hip-hop, silver X for lyrical, gold X for hip-hop duo, gold X for cheer/pom-pom, and gold X for hip-hop crew.
- Mieke Weyers: gold X for Bollywood with a trophy for top junior for ethnic/folk dance, gold for hip-hop duo, gold for jazz, gold for open, gold for contemporary, silver X for disco, gold X for cheer/pom-pom, and gold X for hip-hop crew.
- Anneke Jordaan: gold for Bollywood, silver X for contemporary, gold X for cheer/pom-pom and gold X for hip-hop crew.
- Anwiné Daniels: gold for disco with a trophy for top junior for mega dance/energy, silver X for hip-hop, gold for contemporary, gold X for cheer/pom-pom and gold X for hip-hop crew.
