Cop shoots suspected burglar
An inquest docket was opened at the Springs Police Station.
An off-duty police officer opened fire when two men broke into his Eastvale home on Thursday morning.
It is alleged that sounds coming from the front of his house woke the officer. Upon investigating, he found two men trying to break the front window.
It is alleged that one of the intruders, armed with a knife, attempted to attack the officer.
The officer fired two shots at him, and the other man fled the scene.
The injured suspect was rushed to a nearby hospital under police guard, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala confirmed that an inquest docket and cases of attempted murder and house robbery are under investigation.
