CIC secure narrow win over PFG in Springs Corporate League clash

CIC claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over PFG Building Glass at the Springs Old Boys Sports Ground on May 8.

The Springs Corporate League hosted action-packed games at the Springs Old Boys Sports Ground on May 8.

PFG Building Glass went head-to-head with Clyde Industrial Corporation (CIC) in a heated match that ended in a 1-0 victory for CIC.

The first half ended goalless, with both teams creating chances but failing to convert. In the second half, CIC scored from a free kick to take the lead and went on to win the match.

PFG and CIC hold positions 12 and 3, respectively, on the league log standings. CIC coach Julius Mohlamonyane admitted his side did not fully perform to expectations despite securing the victory, revealing that several first-team players were unavailable due to work commitments.

Mohlamonyane praised the players for executing the game plan.

“Most of my players were on duty, so I had to use a second team, but credit to the boys because they worked hard and won the game,” he said.

He explained that CIC’s strategy was to absorb pressure early in the match before becoming more aggressive in the second half.

“Our plan was to hold them in the first half, then press them more in the second half and use the wings with quick passes across the ground. That’s where we believed we could get a goal,” said Mohlamonyane.

Despite the win, the coach said there are still areas that need improvement.

“I still want to improve our left and right side play because it was not effective enough, and we also create chances without scoring enough goals. That’s something we need to work on,” he said.

PFG coach Klaas Ramaboea believes his side was the better team despite suffering a narrow defeat to CIC, saying missed chances cost them the game.

Ramaboea said PFG dominated possession and created numerous opportunities but failed to convert them, while CIC capitalised on one of their few chances from a free kick late in the game.

“I honestly think the better team lost today. We dominated the game and created chances, but if you don’t score your opportunities, you get punished,” he said.

He credited CIC for their performance, describing them as one of the league’s strongest teams and title contenders.

He also said the match carried extra intensity due to the rivalry between the two clubs, noting that encounters between PFG and CIC are always emotional and competitive.

Despite the setback, Ramaboea remains confident his youthful squad will recover and improve as the season continues.

“The boys are motivated, they love the game, and we’ll reflect on where we went wrong. We just need to improve our finishing and make sure we take our chances next time,” he said.

He added that PFG have historically been slow starters but believes the team will grow stronger as the campaign progresses.
