Green Number runner Sagathavan Pather celebrates another Comrades success

Springs SAPS Captain Sagathavan Pather completed the 2026 Comrades Marathon Up Run in an impressive 10 hours and 49 minutes, achieving his sub-11-hour goal.

Springs SAPS veteran ultra-marathon runner Captain Sagathavan Pather added another memorable chapter to his Comrades Marathon journey by completing the 2026 Comrades Marathon Up Run on June 14 in an outstanding 10 hours and 49 minutes, achieving his target of a coveted sub-11-hour finish.

Running proudly with his Comrades Green Number, a prestigious honour reserved for runners who have completed 10 or more Comrades Marathons, Pather shared with the Springs Advertiser the experience, determination, and resilience that have become hallmarks of his running career.

He explained that the Up Run took runners on the challenging route from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, testing athletes with demanding climbs and relentless hills over approximately 89 kilometres.

He said that through disciplined pacing, mental toughness, and months of dedicated training, he was able to conquer the course and cross the finish line with one of his finest Comrades performances.

“This achievement means a lot to me. The training, sacrifices, and support from my family and friends made this possible.

“Achieving a Sub-11 finish on the Up Run while proudly running with my Green Number is a moment I will treasure forever,” said Pather.

The runner stated that his performance is a testament to years of dedication to the sport and serves as an inspiration to fellow runners pursuing their own Comrades dreams.

Pather reflected on another successful Comrades Marathon finish, proving once again that perseverance, commitment, and passion can overcome even the toughest challenges on the road between Durban and Pietermaritzburg.

“One more medal, one more finish, and another dream achieved,” he said.

The Springs SAPs congratulated the captain on an incredible achievement.

“Your hard work paid off beautifully. Forward is a pace. Finishing is a victory. Sub-11 is a reward.”
