Nokuphila Community Services to host child protection dialogue on ending violence

Children aged six to 17 and their parents are invited to an information session on July 9, where experts will explain how to report abuse and help prevent violence against children.

Nokuphila Community Services will host an informative dialogue to end violence against children from 10:00 to 12:00 on July 9 at the corner of Tonk Meter Road and Coaton Avenue in Selection Park.

The NPO provides services to the communities of Exts 2 and 3, Barcelona, and Marikana.

“There are a number of challenges that the community is facing and they are not exposed to information that can assist them in making informed decisions.

“As an organisation, we see the importance of equipping them with knowledge that will empower them and improve their lives.

“This dialogue will allow children to ask professionals about reporting gender-based violence, sexual assault, statutory rape and the relevant channels through which they can get support,” said Glory Mashaba, specialised auxiliary worker.

Mashaba revealed that various stakeholders, including SAPS, Child Welfare Services, family services and others, will be present.

Children aged six to 17 may attend the programme. She also encourages parents to attend.

“It’s important for them to be equipped with this information because it often reaches the community very late and they don’t always know where to go for help,” Mashaba said.
