Welgedacht Road closed amid protest over electricity issues

A protest over electricity issues has disrupted traffic in Springs, with Welgedacht Road closed at the Bakerton entrance as EMPD and SAPS monitor the situation.

EMPD Springs Precinct officers and SAPS are currently monitoring protest action at the intersection of 1st Avenue and Welgedacht Road.

It is reported that community members have barricaded the road with burning tyres and stones.
Welgedacht Road is closed at the Bakerton entrance.

According to the EMPD, the protest is reportedly due to electricity issues, following a mini-substation that overloaded and caught fire.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution when approaching the area and to use alternative routes where possible. The EMPD added that the situation is being closely monitored.
