Decade of bingo brings weekly joy for Springs couple

Club members Ken and Rita Lewis share how bingo has become part of their lives and encouraged elders to come and play.

The monthly bingo at the Springs Senior Citizens Club took place on October 6, featuring new and familiar faces.

Two members, Ken and Rita Lewis, are one of the few couples who have been playing bingo for more than 10 years at the club.

They told the Springs Advertiser that they reside in Nigel and travel weekly for the club’s activities, with bingo being their favourite.

Rita said that bingo relieves her stress and keeps her busy and entertained.

“I started playing when the children moved away as a way to keep myself busy. Ken followed because he saw how busy I was, and he enjoys it now too,” said Rita.

She added that she used to play bowls in Springs before friends informed her about the senior citizens club and its weekly lunches.

Ken added that it has become something they enjoy as a couple because of their friendly competition.

He said they have made friends with other players over the years and watched the club expand.

“I advise local elders to join us because it keeps us busy and entertained,” he said.
