Cycle the 94.7 race with dad
Kerryn Roodt, daughter of Ray Roodt from Springs Wheelers Cycle Club, is a paraplegic who will join her father in the 94.7 Cycle Challenge on November 18.
She was shot in a robbery three years ago and is paralysed from the chest down.
According to Ray, last year they made a trailer for her, which he towed behind his bicycle for the 94.7 Cycle Challenge.
“We did it for the fun and to see if we could make it around the course. With a little bit of help from my fellow Wheelers members, the experiment was a huge success,” says Ray.
This year Ray and Kerryn will be doing the event again and they are focusing on raising funds for wheelchairs that Kerryn wants to donate to the needy.
Ray adds when she was first injured, she did not want to have a wheelchair, but she now embraces it as it giver her freedom to move about so she wants to help others who cannot afford wheelchairs.
They have registered a charity group at the race and invite all cyclists to join them in the group and make a small donation towards the wheelchairs.
Enter the race as normal then provide Ray with your name and ID number and he will register you for the group. The closing date for the registration is September 26, so don`t delay.
