Martial arts championships
The Mixed Martial Arts Gauteng East Open Championships will take place at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre on October 5.
It is an open competition for all amateur MMA figthers in the fighting modes of light and full contact, gi and no-gi grappling.
“All Eastern Gauteng clubs close to Brakpan can weigh in on October 4, at the Indoor Centre from 6pm to 7pm, and it is compulsory for full contact fighters to weigh-in then as well,” says organiser, Shihan Raymond Phillips.
MMA light, gi and no-gi fighters can weigh-in on October 5, between 7am and 9am at the venue.
Raymond adds late comers will not be accommodated.
Every participant must have a completed indemnity form at the weigh-in, which will be provided before the weigh-in. No fighter will be allowed to take part without a completed indemnity form.
Raymond says all full contact fighters must pass their medical at the weigh-in and it is important to remember to bring a copy of your doctor’s note and the mandatory medical test.
The competition procedures start at 9am, with the officials briefing at 9:30am.
Entries for participation is R180 for one or two modes.
Raymond adds for every extra activity they participate in they have to pay an additional R20.
“Once you have entered there are no refunds,” stipulates Raymond.
Entry fees are paid at the weigh-in and participants should bring the correct amount of cash.
Raymond adds they can only do Tetami or full contact, there are no cross over.
The MMA SA AD rules apply for full contact and MMA light, gi and no-gi will work on Abu Dhabi rules.
Entry fees for spectators are R20 per person and children U/6 get in for free.
