Successful fight

Springs fighter Tumisang Madiba from the Rio Grappling Club fought in the featherweight championship at the Mandeville Indoor Centre in Bedfordview on November 16 and won his fight.

It was the title fight of the night and he managed to win it in the first round by a guillotine choke.

The fight saw Tumisang take on Jasen van der Merwe from World of Warriors in the main event for the title.

Jasen came out cautious but aggressive. They traded punches before Tumisang was able to get a big take down slamming him onto the ground and landing big left punches.

Jasen managed to tie him up, but he disengaged and allowed him to stand up. He then rushed Tumisang with punches and pinned him against the cage, landing some knees to the legs.

Tumisang controlled his wrist to minimize the damage he could do with his punches.

“Jasen then tried for take downs, but my coaches Jurgen Putter and Francios Groenewald were very clear, ‘secure the under hook and turn towards him’ they said to me,” says Tumisang.

Tumisang got Jasen in a choke which won him the fight.

“Coach Jurgen Putter instructed me to lean to the left, choke tighten and Jasen tapped with just two seconds to go.

With that, I became the first FightStar Featherweight champ. I celebrated with my trade mark backflip off the cage,” he says.
