Stealers smash South Stars

Springs Steelers played against South Stars this weekend

Springs Stealers beat South Stars in their third baseball game of the season at Springs Old Boys’ Club last Sunday.

Their final score was 25-6.

Stealers, having home team advantage, took the field with Chris Stone on the mound. He quickly dispatched the first batter with a strikeout and neat, textbook fielding from Jules Tancrel put Stealers in to bat.

South Stars’ pitcher, Jarrob Kebler, started well, catching a fly ball to retire the first batter Mandla Nkabinde.

Things did not go much better for Stealers in their first innings and confusion in the running allowed South Stars a double play, putting Stealers into field only having scored one single run.

In the second innings South Stars retired without scoring by a ground-out, strikeout and catch.

Stealers buoyed by the good fielding came out firing and batted though the whole line-up, scoring eight runs.

Doubles were hit by Chris Stone and Juan du Plessis.

South Stars could not answer and, after two strikeouts and a groundout, were once more facing the Stealers’ batters.

Their fielders began to show strain as three fielding errors allowed Stealers to score another eight runs with doubles hit by Geoffrey Merrifield and Leon Tancrel.

South Stars managed to open their account by scoring two runs off a walk, single and a double. The last hit was by Darren Peterson.

Stealers continued where they left off and scored four more runs off another two fielding errors, extending their lead to 21–2.

In the fifth innings South Stars put steady pressure on Stealers, scoring four runs. Stealers answered with four runs of their own to end the game 25–6.

Stealers plays its next game this Sunday in Randburg against Mets.
