Logan at his best

Logan Stoltz (12) recently won the boys u-12 singles section of the Gauteng East Spring Junior Tennis Tournament, played in Benoni.

He won the singles final match 6-2, 6-4.

During this tournament, Stoltz and his doubles partner, Stefanus Hoffman, from Benoni, made it to the semi-finals of the boys u-14 division.

He says there weren’t enough children to play in the u-12 doubles, therefore they had to compete in the u-14 category, against the top tennis players in the district.

Logan won the boys u-10 singles Gauteng East Spring Tournament in 2013 and in 2014; he played in the u-12 singles and won that, too,” says his mother, Esther Stoltz.

The next competition in which he will compete is the Gauteng East Tennis Association Junior Closed Tournament, which will be played at the Geta Tennis Complex, in Benoni, on October 31.

“This is the first phase of the primary and high school trials, which will be played over four Saturdays,” Stoltz says.

His tennis role model is Novak Djokovic, a Serbian professional tennis player who is currently ranked the world number one in men’s singles tennis by the Association of Tennis Professionals.

“I like his style and that is the way I want to play to fulfil my dream of becoming a professional tennis player,” adds Stoltz.

Although he loves watching other sport on TV, he prefers to pursue his tennis career.

The support he receives from all the members of the Selection Park Tennis Club is overwhelming and he wants children to become more active in playing tennis.

His biggest achievement this year was when he received the u-12 singles trophy.

Being home schooled in Grade Six, he is always looking at how to improve on the tennis court.

Stoltz says hard work and encouragement from his coach and brother, Peter, help him.

Peter is very proud of what he has achieved thus far.
