Players to join Super Fives Hockey
Easterns Eagles presents a Super Fives Hockey tournament at the Eastern Gauteng Hockey Association Astro, corner Brodigan and Hanekam streets in Benoni from February 13 to March 20.
Teams from schools, companies and sports people in the East Rand region will take part in the league.
The Super Fives Hockey is the latest format, introduced by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) to create a shortened version of the game.
“Teams will play a more action-packed game over a shorter period of time meaning the scoring of a lot more goals,” says Shaun Taylor, organiser of the event.
This aligns with other international sporting codes like cricket’s T20, rugby’s Sevens and soccer’s Fives.
The Easterns Eagles will host an open day on February 6 from 11.30am to 2.30pm at the Eastern Gauteng Hockey Association Astro.
Shaun says the inaugural leagues will cater for players aged u-13 to u-19, with seniors and masters leagues to follow soon.
