Midmar Mile weekend

The Midmar Mile will see a large number of local and international swimmers heading to the Midmar Dam, just outside of Pietermaritzburg, this weekend to compete in one of the world's largest open water swimming events.

Once again, Springs will be represented in the water by athletes from Blackfin Swimming Club who will be joining thousands of swimmers hoping to make it to the finish.

Bronwyn Cummings, from the swimming club, will release the results and times of the swimmers when they are done, but she is confident that each swimmer will excel in the race.

The Midmar Mile was recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records in 2009, as the largest open water swimming event when 13 755 competitors took part in the race.

The swim includes many different race categories including individual swimmers, company teams, schools, swimming clubs, families, iron man and biathlon, making provision for just about every level of swimmer, from the elite divisions down to the youngsters.
