Preparation is key for Comrades

A seminar has been set up to help first time Comrades Marathon runners ready themselves for the race in June.

Although the Comrades Marathon is only taking place on June 4, it is important for runners to prepare themselves well in advance, to ensure they make it across the finish line of this year’s 86.7km ‘up-run’.

To make sure that first-time runners are well informed about the training and nutritional requirements of this gruelling race, marathon sponsor Bonitas Medical Fund is hosting a free, informative seminar for novice runners.

To help get you across the finish line before the 12-hour cut-off time, it is essential that you be prepared.

It is important that you know what to expect of the route, that you have trained adequately in terms of time spent out on the road and fuelled the body correctly.

A panel of experts in the fields of medicine, sport psychology and dietetics will be on hand to offer advice and answer your questions. The Official Comrades Coach will also be on hand to provide insight to empower delegates with information which will support them in training as well as on race day. The novice seminar is specifically aimed at first-time Comrades Marathon runners and will be held on Northerns Athletic Club, Benoni Northerns Sport Club, 1 Brodigan Road, Rynfield, Benoni.

The seminar will be held on March 29 and starts at 7pm.

Entrance is free and no reservations are necessary.

Women’s seminar

There will also be a women’s seminar, which is aimed at providing technical and professional support for women running the Comrades Marathon.

This seminar will be held at Johannesburg Southern Sun OR Tambo International Airport at the Airport Grounds in Jones Road, Kempton Park.

Registration is at 7.30am on March 11 and booking is essential as seats are limited.

The seminar costs R120 per person and includes breakfast.
