GITA Winter Tennis League kicks off
It was a 7-2 win for the Selection Park Tennis Club Premier A men's league on Sunday.
Mixed and Men’s A league teams competed in the Gauteng East Tennis Association Winter League games, which officially started on Saturday and continued to Sunday.
The competition was due to start the previous weekend, but was postponed because of the rain.
The Sunday Men’s league Premier A team played against Sunward Park and won the matches with a 7-2 point score.
Club captain Eben Maré says six players played nine games each – six single matches and three doubles matches.
“It was a good win for the start of the winter league,” he says.
However, it didn’t go well with the Saturday league games.
Local Mixed and Men’s A league players played against the Alberhart A team from Alberton and lost by six sets.
Maré says they always strive to do better.
The Premier A teams will take on Modderfontein at Modderfontein on Saturday.
