Springs’ first team currently top of the log

The Springs Rugby Club’s rugby teams played against Boksburg at Springs’ home ground on Saturday.

With the biggest win, the first team boasted a victory with the final score of 51 – 46.

Ockert Brits, the first team’s couch, says it was a nail-biting game up until the end.

“Both teams played great action rugby and the scores were tied at 46 during the last part of the second half.

“Just before the end whistle blew, Wynand Venter managed to score the winning try that gave us the game.”

The halftime score was 26 – 15.

Kazlo Holtzhausen scored two tries and three conversions, scoring a total of 16 points for his team.

Gerhard Jordaan scored three tries, Nico Botha scored two and Nicolaas van Wyk and Wynand both scored one try.

The u-21 team won 41 – 14 and the second team won 26 – 15.

Springs’ first team played against Brakpan last week, playing on the offence since the first kick-off.

Ockert explains that it was the first time since 2014 that Brakpan was beaten on their home grounds.

“And ironically enough, it happened to be Springs who beat them.”

The first team won against Brakpan with a final score of 23 – 17.

Saturday will see the first team facing off against Vereeniging at the Springs Rugby Club, a match that will see the ending of the team’s first round.

The second round will start next weekend as the first team plays an away game.
