Good representation from Springs at the Comrades

Thabo Thwala was the first Striders Athletics Club runner to cross the finish line at the 92nd Comrades Marathon on Sunday.

He completed the race in 8:25:51 in the men’s 50 to 59 category.

The Comrades started as a tribute to the South African soldiers who lost their lives during World War One.

Since then, it has become a South African legendary long-distance road race and its popularity as an ultra-marathon has spread around the world.

Three Striders novices finished the 86.73km race from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.

Ferdinand van Tonder did quite well for a novice and finished in 09:39:27 in the men’s 40 to 59 category. Two other novices also finished the race.

Petra Myburgh completed her 21st Comrades in the women’s 60 to 69 category in 11:29:07.

The club is proud to announce that Karin Smith has finished her 23rd Comrades.

Karin ran in the women’s 50 to 59 category and finished the race in 10:43:47.
