Springs dart players in EEDA dart team

Five local dart players will represent the Ekurhuleni East Darts Association (EEDA) during the annual South African National Darts Championships from July 9 to 14.

The event will take place in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

Michelle Rossouw, Charls Chenembiri, Chris Botha, Arelindo du Toit and Arno Swanepoel have been selected for the EEDA after showing immense skill during the trials at Kingsway Club in Brakpan

Local player Chris says the championships will see players from all provinces and districts competing.

Arno is the EEDA men’s team captain.

The EEDA men’s team consists of 10 players including Charls, Chris, Arelindo, Arno and Aj Fivaz, Thys Ferreira-Netto, Johan Niemand, Hans Viljoen, chairman, and Leon Jooste, team manager.

Swanepoel is team captain.

Michelle is part of the EEDA women’s team which includes Brakpan players Claudine van der Spuij, Hermien Peens, Magdalena Siemens and the team captain Magdelize Wiese.

Botha, who is the development officer for the club, says they are looking for school children to get involved in the sport.

He says darts is one of the few sports where people of any age and gender can compete against each other.

The sport involves skills, fun, competitiveness and team work.

“There is also a level of numeracy required.

“Players, as well as scorers, develop mathematical skills to conduct quick additions and subtractions to determine scores with ease.” he says.

It also helps with concentration levels as players have to be focused during the game.

“It is evident the current junior dart players with maths skills have shown significant skills by using numeracy, strategy to develop ways to add and subtract while playing to make maths interesting,” says Botha.

He says they have various coaches and managers available to assist the children.

Anyone interested in playing, can contact Hans Viljoen on 071 588 7745 or Botha on 072 826 1107.
