July 6

Junior soccer teams on top of their game – Springs Old Boys club hosted two junior games with Springs taking the win in both.

July 13

Slovo United comes out tops – The Top Four Tournament, held at Slovo Park, saw soccer players from across Springs competing.

July 20

Three selected for national team – Three kickboxing students from XT Springs Kickboxing Club under Rina Labuschagne were selected for the President’s National Team.

July 27

Six to compete in full contact fights – Six students from United Martial Arts Springs Club were selected to represent the club at Bash Fight Night South Africa versus Canada.

August 3

Incredible turnout for amateur strongman competition – A strongman competition was held in the parking area of the Springs Mall.

August 10

Winn family at KZN show – Twelve people from Springs are currently competing in the equestrian Shongweni Festival being held in KwaZulu-Natal.

August 17

SGHS u-16 team takes third place at annual softball festival – Springs Girls’ High School hosted their annual softball festival which has been running since 1999.

August 24

• Girls’ High MTB race draws large crowd – Event organiser Yolanda van Greunen says this year’s Springs Girls’ High School mountain bike race was well attended.

Kai’s second MTB win – 366 eager cyclists faced the cold weather to compete in the Transvaal Galvanised MTB race at Van Dyk Park in Brakpan.

September 7

Springs u-15 kick dust in rival’s faces – The Springs u-15 rugby team played against Vereeniging at the Springs Rugby Club, winning the game 54-15.

September 14

Springs Neon Run a very colourful affair – The first-ever “happiest” fun run, the Springs Neon Run, drew participants to St Catherine’s Catholic Church for the Springs Free 2Be Fit bootcamp and Springs Catholic Community event.

September 21

Youngsters enjoy fun colour run day – A colour run was hosted at Birnel College in Dunnottar during a sports day for Molyneux Pre-Primary and Selcourt Pre-Primary schools.

September 28

Eastern League game won by SOB – Springs Old Boys’ u-9 soccer team won their level five game against Bakerton Spurs in the Easterns League.

October 5

Local runners go green at Parkrun – The Springs Parkrun was once again a success as the cooler weather made for comfortable running conditions in the race which started at President’s Park.

October 12

SOB u-9s excel in Easterns League – The Springs Old Boys’ u-9 premier team played against Edenvale, winning the match 2-0.

October 19

Springs’ own junior boxing champion – Geanne Dicks was crowned champion in the 60kg category at the new South African National Boxing Organisation Youth and Junior Open Boxing Championships 2017.

October 26

• Running to raise funds – Despite the cold weather, athletes still turned up in their numbers for the Springs Striders Athletic Club’s annual Garbie Relay Race on Sunday.

Cricket teams rake in the runs -Various cricket matches were played in the Sunday One tournament at the Olympia Park Stadium on Sunday, during the LastManStands Benoni/Springs T20 cricket social league.

• Shaun takes on all contenders – As you read this article, Springsite Shaun ‘Flash’ Joubert (28) will be representing South Africa in Bahrain at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (Immaf) championships.

•Booth hangs in, keeps going – Local canoeist Tommy Booth took a swim in a rocky rapid on his first day at the Vaal River Canoe Marathon.

Shaun returns to SA – Shaun ‘Flash’ Joubert (28), who fights out of House of Tinkerbell, returned from Bahrain where he had the opportunity to fight on an international stage as part of the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (Immaf) championships

December 7

Springs fighters take down opponents – Three mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters from House of Tinkerbell in Springs fought at FightStars at the John Barrable Hall.

December 14

Athletes donate food to SPCA – Springs SPCA received a generous cash donation and much-needed dog and cat food from athletes competing in Springs Striders Athletics Club’s race.
