“When we got here, the place was not in a good condition, but we were determined to revamp it and make it useful to the community,” explained D’Arrigo.
Even though renovations are still underway in the building, the main hall is fully functional.

The revamped hall is open to the community.

“We are now in the hockey season, but before that, we were hosting soccer teams.
“I really want this to be a place people can take full advantage of, especially young people.
“I know what it is like not to have good sports facilities where you live,” he added.
The City of Ekurhuleni confirmed that D’Arrigo leases the hall from it.
With regards to the dilapidated hall, which the municipality claims is leased, it said: “The City of Ekurhuleni’s Properties Division of Real Estate Department will inform the tenant of his or her violation of a signed lease agreement.

The side of the Springs Indoor Sports Centre that is left neglected has no electricity and the bathrooms are flooded.

He also confirmed that the municipality has hired a security company that deploys its staff to the indoor centre to protect it from vandalism.
