Geanné Dicks (20) pounded her opponents to successfully defend her South African Championship title.
“Honestly I didn’t get my hopes high because I know there is always someone who trains to be better than you. So no, I didn’t underestimate my opponents,” she said.
The SA champs were held between July 5 and 10 at Missenvile Campus, Nelson Mandela University, in Gqeberha.
She competed in the elite women’s U75kg division, winning both her SA champ bouts on an RSC (referee stops the contest) in the first round.
In May, the Casseldale resident was enjoying centre stage when she boxed Davina Myrha Michel in the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

She lost her first international fight but brought all the lessons back home with her.
“I took a week off, and then started training twice a day. We went to Thunder Boxing Club for more sparring, and to be prepared for anything that may happen at the championships,” explained the young mother.
And she has not slowed down since.

Dicks did not give her opponent any space to breath, until the referee stopped their match, last Saturday at Rabie Rigde. Photo supplied.

Dicks is participating in training camps to gain more experience to prepare for the All Africa Games early next year.
On Saturday, the referee stopped her from knocking out her opponent in Rabie Ridge.
“I expected a three-round bout but stepped away with a quicker victory,” she added.
Her dream is to compete in the Olympics and make her late father proud.
