EMPD emerge victorious at 2026 National Metro Games

The games saw officers from Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, Tshwane and Durban competing in different sporting codes.

The EMPD was crowned the overall winner of the 2026 National Metro Games, following four days of sporting competition that brought together metro police officers from Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, Tshwane and Durban.

Officers competed in various sporting codes, including soccer, netball, volleyball, pool, hiking and running at different venues in Ekurhuleni.

Beyond the competition, the games provided an important platform for officer wellness, team-building and strengthening relationships between metro police departments.

The four-day event culminated in a closing ceremony at the Alberton Civic Centre on October 1, attended by the City of Ekurhuleni MMC for Community Safety, Clr Mzayifani Ngwenya, EMPD Chief of Police Commissioner Isaac Mapiyeye, TMPD Chief of Police Commissioner Yolande Faro, JMPD Chief of Police Commissioner Patrick Jaca, DMPD Chief of Police Commissioner Sibonelo Mchunu and representatives from the Office of the Executive Mayor.

The closing ceremony was marked by celebrations, dancing and the presentation of medals and awards to participating teams and individuals.

Mapiyeye congratulated all participants and encouraged metro police officers to embrace sport as part of maintaining their overall well-being.

The 2026 National Metro Games concluded on a high note, celebrating not only sporting excellence but also unity, teamwork, wellness and the strong bonds between metro police departments.

The EMPD congratulates all participating teams and officials for their sportsmanship and commitment, and looks forward to building on the success of the 2026 games.
