Fairytale with a twist

We all know the story of Hansel and Gretel who are left in the woods and then come across a candy house, which is the home of a witch.

But what happens after the siblings kill the witch and escape her candy house?

They become world-renowned witch hunters who have taken it upon themselves to rid the world of witches.

When 11 children go missing in a small village, and witches are believed to be involved, the mayor summons Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) to come to their aid.

The siblings discover some shocking news about their parentage and their past while hunting down the witches who have kidnapped the children.

This film is entertaining and just what the doctor ordered for a cold winter’s night.

I love watching movies that take our favourite fairytales and give them something extra – like an ‘after-the-ever-after’ story.

It is even better if the film is then entertaining, full of action and can make me laugh.

Although there are quite a few gory, violent scenes (something I really don’t like), it was done in such a way that I could brush it off and enjoy the rest of the film.

I will not recommend showing this to little ones, but older teens and adults can definitely rent this – if they are not too squeamish.
