Zombie tale with a twist

DVD: Warm Bodies Reviewed by: Natasha Kotze Review made possible by: NuMetro Rating: 8/10

The old concept of a mysterious virus that turns humans into flesh-eating zombies gets a new twist in Warm Bodies.

R is a strange, soulful zombie living in an abandoned 747 at the airport, which is overrun by the zombies and bonies – zombies that have shed their human skin and have evolved from flesh-eating zombies into vicious killers.

When a zombie hunting party, of which R forms part, runs into a human scavenger crew, R (Nicholas Hoult) sets eyes on Julie (Teresa Palmer), a lovely living girl. Instead of eating her, as is his nature, he saves her from the rest of his party and takes her to the airport and his 747.

Over the next few days Julie awakens long-forgotten feelings in R, and she begins to realise that their is still some humanity left in this strange zombie.

I loved this film, not only because it is funny and endearing, but because it is the first I’ve seen where life (or should I rather say the un-death) is seen from the zombie perspective.

It is a whole new concept and it works, despite it being far-fetched and the love story part a bit weird.

The squeamish (I’ll admit I fall into this category) will be happy to know the film isn’t very gory.

If you are in the mood for something different, something romantic and just a little bit strange, then this will fit the bill.
