In this book Ian shares principles that have guided him over the years and what it takes to build and pioneer a brand.

His business philosophy to put people before profit was already developed when he and his brothers opened a supermarket 40 years ago, mainly for the black market.

Here Ian learned about the labour market and developed ways to work in the complex South African labour market, divided by apartheid for centuries.

After this he followed his love for music.

By having his own music distributing company he was doing ground-breaking work in the South African music market.

During these years he had met and distributed the music of several exiled musicians.

He later went back to his brothers’ supermarket and worked there until after they sold it.

Because during his previous business ventures he learned about South Africa’s workplace culture and about racism, Ian opened a labour relations consultancy business shortly after the 1994 elections, helping many businesses to overcome racism in the workplace.

In 2005 Ian opened his first Sorbet beauty salon and created a chain of beauty salon franchises.

Currently there are over 100 stores countrywide.

All three of his children are currently working with him to expand the brand.
