The heat is on to find aspiring models
Carnival City plays host to the Gauteng East Rand auditions for the annual Summer Heat Model and Talent Search on January 29.

This is the fourth time Carnival City has provided the stage for this popular national talent search, now in its eighth year.
The 2017 Gauteng East Rand audition will be hosted in the Rio Rooms and auditions are by appointment only.
Emerging models, singers, dancers and actors have until January 26 to apply, via email to summerheatinfo@gmail.com, to audition.
Entrants will be assessed and advised on whether they are approved to audition.
At the audition, approved contestants may enter one or more of the individual categories or the group category and will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop and a photo shoot.
There are no age, height of other limitations for any of the singing, dancing, acting or modelling categories.
Scouts for the International Arts Talent Showcase will be present to assess the contestants. Those who stand out will be invited to perform in front of international scout, talent manager and director of ARTS USA, Kim Myers.
Those who impress Myers will be invited to represent South Africa in the US. There they will spend two weeks in New York and Orlando, Florida, performing in front of representatives from major international model agencies, casting directors, managers and movie studios from around the world.
Every contestant also has the opportunity to be evaluated to audition for potential scholarships to study at the New York Film Academy and other tertiary institutes in the US and Europe.
Finalists from each regional audition will be invited to participate in a five-day workshop in preparation for the National Summer Heat Gala Final Awards later in the year.
Finalists will gain vital workplace information through various workshops, photo shoots and fun team-building exercises that allow contestants to become part of the supportive Summer Heat family.
Michelle Smith, the marketing manager at Carnival City, says, “We proudly support credible campaigns to unearth and nurture performing arts talent.
“The Summer Heat Model and Talent Search is entrenched as a channel for discovering new talent and a launching pad for performers to pursue their dreams of a career in the performing arts.
“We look forward to the auditions at the end of the month,” she says.
